Canoeing and kayaking, part of the Olympics for a century, return to Paris 2024 with a new event. Canoeists kneel in their boat with a single-bladed paddle, while kayakers sit with a double-bladed paddle. Canoeing debuted in the 1924 Paris Games as a demonstration sport, became a competition sport in 1936 Berlin Olympics, and has been featured at every Summer Olympics since.
