Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, plans to build a new stadium to support local talent and represent Nigeria internationally, during a 2024 Olympic Day Run event. Contracts for upgrading Akure township stadium have already been awarded, and mini stadia in Ondo, Ikare, and Ile Oluji will soon follow. Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the importance of sports for social interaction, integration, and youth health.
