Two high school seniors, Zoe Ramsey and Niko Peterson, lost their friend Gavinn McKinney to a drug overdose in 2021. In response, they turned their grief into activism, promoting harm reduction strategies. They researched fentanyl test strips and Narcan, a nasal spray containing naloxone that can reverse opioid overdoses. Concerned about the rising number of teen overdose deaths linked to counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl, they aim to educate their peers about these tools and advocate for safer drug use practices.
