Former Real IRA member Nathan Kinsella has been jailed for one year for failing to pay taxes on €230,000 he claimed he received as a gift from a millionaire friend while on unemployment benefits. Kinsella, who has a previous conviction for IRA membership, admitted to gardaí (Irish police) that the money was not "dodgy" and he did not see an issue with accepting large sums of cash. The Special Criminal Court in Dublin imposed a final sentence of 18 months, with the final six months suspended for two years.
