Detroit is intensifying its efforts against business owners posting signs illegally, as part of its ongoing battle against blight. Over 615 signs promoting "Shaw's Plumbing" have been removed since February 2022. William Shaw, owner of the plumbing company, has been cited for over 50 misdemeanors and must serve 40 hours of community service, which includes removing signs posted illegally by others. Detroit's Mayor, Mike Duggan, has taken aggressive steps to combat blight, demolishing 25,000 vacant or abandoned structures over the past decade.
