Amtrak has awarded a $1.3bn contract to Tutor Perini Corp and O&G Industries for the replacement of the 116-year-old Connecticut River Bridge. The new two-track bridge, set to begin construction in 2024, will replace the current structure between Old Saybrook and Old Lyme and accommodate maximum train speeds of 70 mph, up from 45 mph. The project has been approved by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Connecticut Department.
