49-year-old San Antonio man, Brennan Dane Short, was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for distributing fentanyl-laced pills through the mail that led to the death of an El Paso woman. Short sold counterfeit M-30 pills via mail to a purchaser in El Paso on March 21, 2023, and the woman was found dead at a hotel six days later. The El Paso County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the woman died of acute methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl toxicity, with the fentanyl being the primary cause. Short pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of a controlled substance causing death or serious bodily injury.
