US appeals court revives software engineer's class action lawsuit against Meta Platforms, alleging hiring bias against US citizens.
A US appeals court has revived a software engineer's proposed class action lawsuit against Meta Platforms, alleging the company preferred to hire foreign workers who receive lower wages. The court ruled that a Civil War-era law prohibiting discrimination in contracts based on "alienage" extends to bias against US citizens. The lawsuit was initially dismissed by a California federal judge. Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has denied wrongdoing and said the plaintiff failed to show the company intended to discriminate.
