UEFA referees issued 166 yellow cards for tactical fouls in Euro 2024 group-stage, up from 98 in the previous edition.

UEFA's head of match officials revealed that stricter action on tactical fouls by Euro 2024 referees has led to a spike in yellow cards shown, with 166 cards during the 36 group-stage games compared to 98 in the previous edition. Tactical fouls disrupt a fast counterattack by committing an offense, forcing the referee to stop play. UEFA managing director of referee, Robeto Rosetti, said referees are now more alert to these types of fouls.
