NYC implements speed limits as low as 10mph on select streets undergoing safety-related redesigns due to Sammy's Law.

NYC streets will see speed limits as low as 10mph following Sammy's Law, which authorizes the city to implement speed limits of 20mph on individual streets and 10mph on select streets undergoing safety-related redesigns. The first "Regional Slow Zone" to be considered is lower Manhattan south of Canal Street, expected to be completed by the end of this year or early next year. NYC DOT will start publicly notifying community boards about its proposals, followed by a 60-day comment period before implementation.
