Quebec introduces Bill 96 language rules, requiring French to occupy ⅔ of storefronts & commercial signs by June 2025.
Quebec has introduced new language rules requiring French to occupy at least two-thirds of the space on storefronts and outdoor commercial signs, as part of Bill 96 to protect the French language. These regulations will come into effect in June 2025, affecting businesses with English names that must include French generic terms or descriptions occupying twice the space of their English brand name. The language requirements also apply to product packaging.
