Maharashtra Cabinet approves Mahalaxmi Racecourse lease renewal and plans to transform 120 acres into a global-standard public park by 2024.
The Maharashtra Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has approved the renewal of a lease agreement for 91 acres of the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, with the remaining 120 acres to be transferred to the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The state government aims to transform the 120-acre plot into a global-standard Central Public Park by January 2024, inspired by London's Hyde Park and New York's Central Park, featuring pathways, walkways, and sitting areas. The BMC also plans to create a subway connecting the park to the Mumbai Coastal Road Project.
