Chinese-owned Nexperia invests $200m in Hamburg, Germany, for chip production expansion without state subsidies.
Chinese-owned chipmaker Nexperia has announced a $200m investment to expand capacity at its main production site in Hamburg, Germany. The investment, made by Dutch-headquartered Nexperia, owned by Chinese electronics maker WingTech, is a rare example of a computer chip investment made in Europe without state subsidies. The expansion aims to support key technologies in the fields of electrification and digitalisation, with the development of silicon carbide (SiC), gallium nitride (GaN) and silicon (Si) diodes and transistors.
