2023 Canadian wildfires emitted 3.28 billion tons of CO2, exceeding India's fossil fuel emissions.

The fires burned over an area larger than West Virginia, and scientists calculated they emitted 3.28 billion tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. The fires' emissions were nearly four times the annual carbon emissions of the global aviation sector and equivalent to 647 million cars' annual emissions.
