California lawmaker Wendy Carrillo, who faced a DUI, is now on a mission to discuss alcohol issues. She crashed her car while driving drunk last fall but has since focused on the harms of alcohol in society. Carrillo introduced legislation, Assembly Bill 2865, pending in the California Senate, that requires high school students to learn about the short- and long-term health effects and other harms of alcohol.
