58-year-old Ken Miller of Michigan became the first person in the state to receive a "beating heart transplant", a new procedure developed by surgeons at Stanford University. The technique allows the heart to beat during transplant, reducing risks and potentially improving the recipient's condition. Since the first surgery in May, Henry Ford Health surgeons have successfully completed a second beating heart transplant.
