Virginia farm-use vehicle tag rules change July 1: unregistered farm vehicles must display a DMV-issued placard.

Virginia's farm-use vehicle tag rules change from July 1, requiring unregistered farm-use vehicles, like panel trucks, pickup trucks, and SUVs with a gross vehicle weight rating under 7,500 pounds, to display a DMV-issued permanent farm-use placard. The change, passed in 2023 with a one-year grace period, will render unofficial farm-use tags unacceptable from July 1, 2024. Placards cost $15 and are valid for a vehicle's lifetime.
