SXSW has dropped ties with the US Army and weapons manufacturers as a result of artist boycotts and backlash over sponsorships. Over 80 artists pulled out of the 2024 event in protest against the festival's ties to defense contractors and weapons manufacturers. The festival has announced that the US Army and companies that engage in weapons manufacturing will not be sponsors of SXSW 2025.
