4 Seattle protesters awarded $700k for civil rights violation during 2021 Black Lives Matter arrest.

Four Seattle protesters have been awarded nearly $700,000 by a federal court jury after they were jailed for writing anti-police slogans in chalk on a temporary barricade near a police precinct in January 2021. The jury found that the officers violated the protesters' civil rights with "malice, oppression, and reckless disregard." The arrests occurred during the height of Black Lives Matter protests in Seattle and around the world following the death of George Floyd in 2020.
