Oklahoma Supreme Court rejects state-funded Catholic charter school, citing constitutional violations.

Oklahoma's Supreme Court has rejected a proposed state-funded Catholic charter school, St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual School, stating that it violated the state and U.S. Constitutions. This decision marks the first time a state directly funded a religious public school, and may be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court. The ruling said that the state's charter school act, as well as the state and U.S. constitutions, only allow nonsectarian public schools and prohibit the use of public money for the establishment of a religious institution.
