New research suggests that introducing a dedicated healthcare team for older patients in Irish emergency departments could save the health service up to €2.4bn a year and improve patients' quality of life. The study, published in Plos One, found that adding a team of health and social care professionals focusing on timely assessment and intervention for patients aged 65 and over could save an average of €6,128 per person.
