Egypt needs to import around $1.18bn worth of mazut fuel oil and natural gas to combat persistent power cuts exacerbated by consecutive heatwaves, according to PM Mostafa Madbouly. The government aims to stop cutting power during the remaining summer months by the third week of July when these shipments are expected to arrive. Egypt faces a $1bn price tag to fully overcome the summer power shortage.
