California leads US battery storage growth in power systems, accounting for roughly half of the country's utility-scale battery capacity since 2019. California's 8.6 gigawatts (GW) of battery storage capacity is twice as much as the capacity in place in Texas, the second-largest deployer of battery storage. The US battery storage capacity is currently estimated at around 17.5 GW, with a potential increase to over 30 GW by year-end.
