A small plane made an emergency landing in the Columbia River near Gary Island, two miles east of Portland International Airport. The pilot, identified as Rick Boettcher, walked away unhurt after the single-engine Mooney M20K experienced engine trouble while approaching Troutdale Airport. Boettcher climbed out of the plane on his own, swam to shore, and was taken to Chinook Landing for medical evaluation.
