Retired IFS officer Bharat Lal receives a one-year extension as NHRC Secretary-General until June 30, 2025.
Retired IFS officer Bharat Lal has been granted a one-year extension as the Secretary-General of India's National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), effective until June 30, 2025, or until further orders. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet announced the extension, while also extending Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Kumar Deka's tenure for a year. Lal, a 1988-batch officer of Gujarat cadre, has been serving in the NHRC since 2023.
