Mobile County man, Erik Christopher Perez, charged with capital murder in a 2021 fatal hatchet and shovel attack was found not guilty by reason of insanity. Perez's defense and prosecution experts agreed that he couldn't appreciate the wrongfulness of his actions at the time. The judge, Michael Windom, scheduled a July 11th hearing and indicated Perez will be involuntarily committed.
