Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to install eco-friendly pyre cremation systems in 10 Hindu Shamshan-bhoomi across Mumbai after a successful 5-year pilot at Sion Hindu Crematorium. The new system uses less wood, reduces smoke and particulate emissions, and is compliant with religious rituals. It's expected to save 100-125 kg of wood per corpse, contributing to improved city air quality.
