53-year-old salesman Aasim Johar was sentenced to 7 years in prison for a £3.3 million fraud against Edinburgh University. Johar and the university's former assistant director of estates and buildings, Geoff Turnbull, conspired for a decade (2005-2015) to mastermind a bogus procurement scheme involving the order of unnecessary cleaning materials through Johar's employer, Universal Solutions (International). The fraud resulted in millions of pounds in misappropriated funds and took advantage of the university's lax financial controls.
