Malaysian authorities arrested eight suspected ISIS militants, thwarting potential threats against national leaders.
Malaysian authorities arrested eight individuals with suspected ties to the Islamic State militant group, thwarting potential threats against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the nation's king, and other dignitaries. The individuals, aged 25 to 70, were detained without trial in four states during a police operation over the weekend. Their arrests followed several investigations conducted in May, including a former university lecturer, housewives, and a construction worker. Malaysia has previously taken stringent measures to curb the influence of militant cells connected to the Islamic State, detaining hundreds of suspects before 2020.
