Lagos court acquits former Lagos speaker Ikuforiji and assistant Atoyebi of 54 money laundering charges.
A federal high court in Lagos acquitted former Lagos speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, and his former assistant, Oyebode Atoyebi, of 54 counts of money laundering. The judge, Justice Mohammed Liman, ruled that the prosecution failed to meet the legal burden of proof required. Ikuforiji and Atoyebi were initially charged in 2012 with allegedly accepting cash payments of N338.8 million from the house of assembly without going through a financial institution. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused the two of money laundering.
