Karnataka imposes fines & life imprisonment for using artificial colours in food items.
Karnataka imposes up to Rs 10 lakh fine & life imprisonment for using artificial colours in chicken kebabs, fish & vegetable dishes across the state. The Food Safety and Standards Department found 8 out of 39 samples contained unsafe artificial colours. Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao instructed the Commissioner of the Food Safety Department to investigate the adverse effects of artificial colours in food.
