Former ATO debt collector Richard Boyle lost his appeal for immunity under the federal Public Interest Disclosure Act after exposing unethical debt recovery practices at the Australian Taxation Office. The Court of Appeal ruled that whistleblowers should not investigate claims before disclosing them to authorities, and gathering information through improper means does not warrant immunity. Boyle's trial in the SA District Court is set for September 2.
