BT Group has deployed 'cell sleep' technology across its EE mobile sites in the UK, following successful trials in each of the UK's home nations. The technology puts certain 4G LTE carriers into sleep mode during predicted periods of low traffic, identified using machine learning. This is expected to deliver energy savings of up to 4.5 million kWh per year across the network, reducing BT Group's demand on the local Grid.
