Australia's incoming Governor General, Samantha Mostyn, will receive a salary of over $700,000, a 43% increase from her predecessor David Hurley's $495,000. The salary increase, the first in five years, is proposed to "moderately exceed" the High Court Chief Justice's salary. Taxpayer advocate Brian Marlow called the increase a "slap in the face" to taxpayers and an example of government waste.
