ACT switches to emissions-based vehicle registration fees in July 2024 to support net-zero emissions by 2045 and phase out new petrol/diesel vehicles by 2030.
Australian Capital Territory (ACT) will switch to emissions-based vehicle registration fees from July 1, 2024. The new system consists of six CO2 emission categories, with higher-emitting vehicles charged more. Despite 96% of private passenger vehicles expected to pay less, some popular models may face increased fees. This change supports ACT's goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2045 and phasing out new petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030.
