New Zealand introduces Community Beat Teams in major cities, starting with Auckland, to enhance police presence and target anti-social behavior and crime in CBDs.
New Zealand is introducing Community Beat Teams in major cities, with Auckland first to benefit from additional constabulary officers. The initiative aims to boost police presence and visibility, targeting anti-social behavior and crime in Central Business Districts. Operation Safer Streets sees a two-year rollout of 63 additional staff in Auckland's three policing districts, 17 in Wellington, and 10 in Christchurch, with the aim of moving towards a 24/7 beat model in the CBD. This decision comes as part of a response to increased anti-social behavior and public place crime in recent years.
