Canadian ambassador to Beijing, Jennifer May, raised human rights concerns over Xinjiang during a June 2022 visit, following a UN report on China's treatment of Uyghurs.

Canada's ambassador to Beijing, Jennifer May, expressed concerns about human rights violations in Xinjiang directly to local leaders during a June 19-22 visit, the first by a Canadian envoy in a decade. This comes after a 2022 report by the UN Human Rights Chief stated China's treatment of Uyghurs, a mainly Muslim ethnic minority in Xinjiang, could constitute crimes against humanity. Beijing denies the allegations.
