Saudi Arabia's Kaaba caretaker, Sheikh Saleh Al-Shaiba, passed away after a prolonged illness.
Saudi Arabia's chief key holder of the Holy Kaaba, Sheikh Saleh Al-Shaiba, has passed away after a prolonged illness. Born in Makkah, he held a doctorate in Islamic studies and authored books on religion and history. The 109th successor of Uthman ibn Talha, Al-Shaiba was the 77th caretaker from the same family, responsible for managing the affairs of the Kaaba, including cleaning, washing, and repairing the Kiswa (the covering of the Kaaba). He was succeeded by Dr Saleh bin Zain al-Abidin Al-Shaibi in 2013.
