India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the rollout of pan-India biometric authentication using Aadhaar to combat fraudulent input tax credit claims made through fake invoices. This decision was made during the 53rd GST Council meeting. Aadhaar biometric authentication is now mandatory for new GST registrations across the country, and the biometric authentication process will be rolled out nationwide in a phased manner.
