GST Council chaired by Nirmala Sitharaman exempts railway services and student hostels from GST.

The GST Council chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman decided to exempt railway services, including ticket purchases and waiting room charges, from GST. The Council also approved exemptions on GST for hostels for students outside educational institutions, with an upper limit of Rs 20,000 per person per month for students staying continuously for 90 days.
