France and China jointly launched SVOM satellite to study gamma-ray bursts from massive star explosions or compact star mergers.
France and China have launched a joint satellite, Space Variable Objects Monitor (SVOM), to study gamma-ray bursts, the brightest cosmic events emitted by massive star explosions or compact star mergers. The 930-kilogram satellite, developed by engineers from both countries, was launched aboard a Chinese Long March 2-C rocket from Xichang in southwestern China. SVOM aims to capture and analyze gamma-ray bursts, furthering understanding of the universe's history and evolution.
