Western Australia considers hosting Australia's Antarctic program due to dispute over wharf upgrades for icebreaker RSV Nuyina.
Western Australia is considering hosting Australia's Antarctic program amid a dispute between the federal government and Tasmania over wharf upgrades for the icebreaker, RSV Nuyina. The current home port of Nuyina is Hobart, but federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek raised concerns about the estimated $515m cost of redeveloping Macquarie Wharf 6, where Nuyina docks. WA Ports Minister David Michael has left the door open for the state to become the home of the Antarctic program and Nuyina.
