The Philippines declined to invoke its Mutual Defense Treaty with the US following a South China Sea incident involving Chinese coast guard. Philippine navy boats were rammed, boarded, & damaged, resulting in Filipino sailor injuries and rifle seizure. The Philippines has not yet classified the incident as an armed attack, nor invoked the treaty, despite US warning of defense obligation in the region.
