Ontario missed its May 2024 housing target by 5,400 units, adding 7,062 units, a 23% increase from 2023.

Ontario has not met its monthly housing targets since 2022, adding 7,062 units in May 2024, a 23% increase from the previous year but still 5,400 units short of the goal. The province needs to build 1.5 million homes by 2031 and has assigned annual targets to 50 municipalities. Ontario may revise its housing data after some municipalities complained of undercounting, which cost four municipalities $23.3 million in funding.
