Florida Supreme Court rules that Governor DeSantis' 2021 anti-riot law does not threaten peaceful protesters.
The Florida Supreme Court has ruled that Governor Ron DeSantis' 2021 anti-riot law, designed to crack down on violent demonstrations, does not pose a threat to peaceful protesters. The court clarified that under the most natural reading of the statute, a peaceful protester is not a rioter. The ruling will now go to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which will use it to determine whether to overturn a preliminary injunction issued by Chief U.S. District Judge Mark Walker in 2021.
