37-year-old Constance Marten and her partner Mark Gordon faced trial for the death of their newborn baby, Victoria, in Brighton, but the jury discharged without a verdict; prosecution considers a retrial.

Aristocrat Constance Marten, 37, and her partner Mark Gordon, 50, faced trial over the death of their newborn baby, Victoria, who was found dead in Brighton, East Sussex, last March. The couple faced charges of manslaughter by gross negligence, causing or allowing the death of a child, concealing the birth of a child, child cruelty, and perverting the course of justice. However, the jury discharged after three days of deliberation, failing to reach a verdict. Judge Mark Lucraft KC thanked the jurors for their dedication and offered them a lifetime exemption from jury service. The prosecution is now considering whether to seek a retrial.
