President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared June 24 a special non-working day in Manila to celebrate its 453rd founding anniversary. The holiday declaration was made through Proclamation 599 signed on June 19 by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin. The city's founding date is June 24, 1571, when it was established by Spanish conquistador Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, who also became the Philippines' first governor-general.
