Starting Oct. 1, Minnesota's Debt Fairness Act bans medical providers from withholding care due to unpaid bills and forgives debt transferred from a deceased spouse. The act also prevents medical debt from affecting credit scores. Co-sponsored by Sen. Liz Boldon and Rep. Liz Reyer, the legislation requires medical providers to publish debt collection processes and create new methods to dispute billing errors.
