IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu seeks negotiation with the Nigerian Federal Government over his trial through Section 17 of the Federal High Court Act.
Nnamdi Kanu, leader of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is seeking negotiations with the Nigerian Federal Government over his trial on terrorism-related charges, according to his lead counsel, Alloy Ejimakor. Kanu's intention to negotiate is based on Section 17 of the Federal High Court Act, which allows courts to promote reconciliation among parties and encourage amicable settlements. The Federal Government's counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo, informed the court that he lacks the authority to negotiate on behalf of the government and advised Kanu to approach the Attorney General of the Federation. Justice Binta Nyako, the presiding judge, clarified that the court's role is to hear cases and not negotiate.
