48-year-old ex-NSW police officer Shawn Adams faces a perjury charge for allegedly lying about text messages in NRL star Jack de Belin's sexual assault trial in 2020.

Former NSW police officer Shawn Adams, 48, faces a perjury charge for allegedly lying under oath about text messages during NRL star Jack de Belin's sexual assault trial in February 2020. Prosecutors claim Adams, the lead detective in the case, falsely stated that text messages between de Belin and a contact saved as "Craig Lawyer" pertained only to Dragons club business. De Belin and co-accused Callan Sinclair were previously facing charges of raping a 19-year-old woman, with two juries unable to reach a verdict on most charges. The Director of Public Prosecutions dropped these charges in 2021.
